Banker versus Player versus Tie
Banker bet
The Banker hand has a small structural advantage because its draw can depend on the Player’s third card. Standard tables offset that advantage by charging 5% commission on winning Banker wagers. With standard eight-deck rules, the resulting house edge is about 1.06%.
Player bet
A winning Player wager normally pays 1:1 with no commission. The Player hand wins slightly less often under the fixed drawing rules, producing a standard eight-deck house edge of about 1.24%. The percentage-point difference from Banker is small, but it compounds with repeated wagering.
Tie bet
A standard Tie wager at 8:1 has a much larger edge because the payout is below the price implied by its roughly 9.52% probability. A 9:1 Tie payout is materially better but still has a larger standard edge than Banker or Player. If the hand ties, ordinary Banker and Player stakes are returned rather than lost.
How the 5% Banker commission works
Commission is charged on profit, not on the returned stake. If a $100 Banker wager wins at a standard table, the gross even-money profit is $100, the 5% commission is $5, and the net profit is $95. The original $100 stake is also returned, so the total amount received is $195.

Some live tables record commission during the shoe and collect it later; others deduct it immediately. Confirm the table procedure and chip denomination before betting. Rounding rules can matter when the calculated commission is smaller than the smallest playable chip.
Baccarat card values and drawing rules
Aces count as one, cards 2–9 use their face value, and tens plus picture cards count as zero. Only the final digit of the total matters: a hand containing 7 and 8 totals 15 and therefore scores 5. A two-card 8 or 9 is a natural, ending the normal draw process.
- Player: draws on totals 0–5 and stands on 6 or 7.
- Banker when Player stands: draws on 0–5 and stands on 6 or 7.

Commission-free and modified baccarat
“No commission” does not mean “no house edge.” A common Super 6 rule pays only 0.5:1 when Banker wins with 6, while other winning Banker totals pay 1:1. That modification produces a Banker edge of about 1.46% under the standard version—higher than the roughly 1.06% commission game.

Banker Pair, Player Pair, Perfect Pair, Dragon-style and other side bets have separate pay tables and probabilities. A prominent top prize does not reveal the return across the full pay table. Verify the exact version and published RTP before comparing it with the three core bets.
Roadmaps and scoreboards record past outcomes. They can make streaks easier to see, but they do not alter the fixed drawing rules or make Banker, Player or Tie “due.” Changing stake size after a win or loss changes volatility and money at risk, not the underlying edge.
